We’re excited to be back in Morzine for our fourth winter season and as December approaches we reflect why this fast-growing resort is so fabulous! Here are our top ten reasons to visit Morzine this winter …

1.The really convenient transfer time

One of the many reasons that Morzine is such a great place to visit is because it’s only an hour and a quarter away from Geneva airport. This means that you can start your holiday straight away with no long, boring minibus rides. If you’re travelling with kids then it’s much less painless than a three and a half hour bus ride to Courchevel! Check transfer prices here.

2. Skiing in The Ranfolly Bowl

This area of Morzine/Les Gets really is one of our favourites. Beautifully tree-lined and almost always in the sun this is a great place to start your day and take in the stunning scenery of the Portes du Soleil. Make sure you stop at Le Wetzet, halfway down the Tulipe piste for a hot chocolate or a vin chaud in the sun for elevensies! View the Morzine piste map here.

3. Après ski in The Tibetan Cafe

Our favourite spot in town for a few aprés ski drinks after a great day on the slopes. This lively underground bar has a great atmosphere and plays superb classic rock music all afternoon and evening!  Their friendly staff do a great job of keeping the toffee vodka stream flowing which is just what you need to warm you up as you come off the mountain. 4. Taking on The Swiss Wall

One of the Portes du Soleil’s most well known runs, this itinerary route is a fantastic playground for advanced skiers looking to take on a challenge! Tackle the moguls and feel a real sense of achievement (as well as burning thighs!) when you reach the bottom. If you’re not quite up for the challenge you can take the chairlift down and watch your friends enjoy the ride!

5. Snowboxx music festival

This winter, Snowboxx music festival is relocating to Avoriaz from Alpe d’Huez and it’s set to be a pretty special week of incredible performances at the heart of the Portes du Soleil. From the 12th – 19th March 2016 this sell-out festival promise to bring awesome atmosphere and great music to Avoriaz, the Portes du Soleil’s highest resort which is easily accessible from Morzine.

6. The great value lift pass

The Portes du Soleil is one of the largest ski areas in the world and what’s even more exciting is that you get so much more for your money when compared to other popular ski area lift passes. Here in the Portes du Soleil you have access to 650km of pistes for just €247.50 per adult, per week; far better value then 435km of pistes for €291 in Le Paradiski. View the Portes du Soleil lift pass here.

7. Beer at the Bec Jaune

The Bec Jaune has taken Morzine by storm since opening its microbrewery doors two winters ago and we couldn’t recommend it enough to anyone who enjoys homemade everything! Not only do they serve a seriously delicious selection of beers but they also offer a menu of really tasty, freshly made food; the atmosphere is relaxed, friendly and just what you need after a day on the slopes.

8. Playing in The Stash

The Stash is one of the many freestyle areas that we’re lucky to have in the Portes du Soleil for those freeriders who just can’t stick to the pistes! Avoriaz has become well known for this snow park because all of its features are 100% natural, either shaped by the natural terrain or built using wood. This one of a kind alpine playground really is quite special and is not to be missed by anyone looking for an adventure through the forest.

9. The Dixie Mick’s

This lively Irish band come together for a few weeks each year, bringing excitement and an excellent apres ski environment to the Dixie Bar in Morzine town centre. A group of seriously talented musicians playing classic Irish songs and plenty of popular covers they really are not to be missed if you’re in town at the same time as them!

10. The Morzine Penguins

The Morzine/Avoriaz/Les-Gets ice hockey team play every week of the season at our fantastic arena in the centre of town. It’s always an exciting night out and great fun for the whole family so definitely try and catch a match if you can!
